Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Rye

Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Rye

By Joe Ferronato

If you’ve followed along with Field Ethos for any amount of time, I’m sure you’re familiar with our excessive drinking habits and fondness for Chicken Cock Whiskey. The brand has quite the variety of libations, and the bourbons are incredibly delicious—and they just bring a better mood to the evening.

My experience with the bourbon has been nothing but pleasurable; it goes down smooth and tastes great. But until recently, I had not branched out to the rye offerings from the brand, and I can say the Kentucky Straight Rye does not disappoint.

Rye whiskey I’ve consumed in the past has been good—and I’ve drank a lot of it—but I’ve always been partial to a bourbon for the refined flavor. Ryes are usually milder with a less complex palate. That is not the case with this one.

The Kentucky Straight Rye Experience

With the first sip, the refined flavor of the whiskey really came through. I didn’t know quite what I was tasting, but I knew i liked it. It has a rich bite due to the variety of spices in the recipe, and the aged oak flavor lingers, really defining the drink. Though it does have a kick, it’s still smooth and the citrus is rather refreshing.

I’ve been sharing this rye with friends over that past few weeks, and they all seem to agree that it is rather delicious. And I can speak from experience that it enhances the festivities when one of these bottles gets cracked open. The only downside is the headache that comes the next day because it’s so good you keep going back for “just one more.”

Cost: $60

Pros: Delicious, complex flavor; has enough kick to make you sip it but is still smooth and refreshing.

Cons: The bottle’s not big enough and you run out too quick, and it still gives you a hangover.
