For years Trijicon has set the standard for AR-15-specific optics with its venerable, unique and instantly recognizable ACOG. This Tritium and fiber-optic powered, fixed-magnification optic won the lucrative U.S. Marine Corps contract for its simplicity, toughness and effectiveness on the carbines of rank-and-file infantrymen who are known to beat the living shit out of their issued gear. Since then it has become the optic most AR-15 owners want but frankly few own due to their lofty government-contract-type pricetag. In my view, ACOG is what most folks think of when they think of Trijicon.
Of course those in the know realize the Wixom, Michigan-based company also makes some of the world’s best mini red dot sights in its RMR line, not to mention that its REAP-IR thermal is another one that everyone wants due to its supreme technology housed in a package that’s closer to the size of a normal scope than a bazooka like most of its competition.
However, when talking to my buddies, it seems plenty of hunters and shooters are not yet up to speed on Trijicon’s recent expansion into all categories of traditional variable-powered riflescopes for hunters, target shooters and law dogs.
Sure, the Tritium-illuminated AccuPoint line has been around for 20 years or so; its AccuPower, about five. But in 2020 the company launched a full catalog of scopes—six new lines—running the gambit in terms of intended use, features, size, power and price. I have used at least one model of each line on actual hunts or target shoots and they are top-tier in quality. I have never had a problem with any of them; indeed I’ve only been impressed.
What follows is a breakdown of Trijicon’s new scope lines and models, because unless you happen to be a Trijicon marketer, this stuff can be very confusing.
Ascent
The Ascent is a non-illuminated scope line geared toward dudes like me who want a good scope for their AR-15 but aren’t on a SWAT team and aren’t going to pay more than the AR itself. $650-$700

Credo
A mid- to-upper tier line of optics for tactical work, professional competition and long-range hunting/target shooting. They feature 30mm and 34mm tubes, top-notch adjustments, etched illuminated reticles and are excellent all-around scopes. $835-$1750

Huron
Trijicon’s most affordable line of scopes are made for hunters and general shooting. All feature fully multi-coated optics with scratch-resistant lens coatings, hand-adjustable dials, waterproof and fogproof construction. Second focal plane reticles. I’ve used them extensively, and along with Leupold, feel they are likely the best at their price point. $650- $700
