Mandatory laps for Q&A

Sunday Q&A — October 19, 2025

Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.

Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.

For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.

We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.

*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.

Enjoy.

Q: Which one of you all is that in the picture?

A: That’s Schoby in the winter of 2002 after a four-day bender and a Chick-Fil-A 50-nugget party platter for hangover comfort food. He holds water.

Blackface was still ok. In fact, six years later RD Jr. would be nominated for an Oscar because of it.

Q: ETA on FE x Henry Rifle collab?

A: This fall. Chill.

Q: Best gift/gun I can get myself for my 30th next month? (Other than 30 laps).

A: You asked your fiancé for permission to buy an Omega watch, so you should probably just get some pepper spray and a whistle.

Q: Winchester 70s: Are lightweight barrel models noticeably less accurate than heavier ones?

A: No

Q: Boombox vs Honey Badger for suppressed hog and whitetail in Georgia? 200 yard max.

A: Q Boombox for more horsepower with subsonics.

Q: Are there any updates on the Henry collab?

A: Fuckin chill.

Q: 9.3×62 FE x Sauer good for NE whitetail or is that dumb?

A: The FE x Sauer Exception in 9.3×62 is a whitetail hammer out to 250 yards. It’s a sub-MOA rifle so it’s very doable if you know your drop. Remember kids, there’s no such thing as overkill.

Q: Thoughts on Weatherby rifles?

A: We don’t think about them at all.

Q: What are some dream hunts you guys have yet to do?

A: Lowland Paca in Guyana; leopard with hounds in Botswana; brocket deer in Mexico; saltwater croc in Indonesia; emperor penguin in Antarctica (for science).

Q: FE x Buffalo Bore vid/podcast coming up? Thanks in advance!

A: Tim has been asking me for a while. Definitely going to do it when our schedules line up. He’s a good friend and one of the most knowledgeable killers out there.

Q: How many Alps you going through a day?

A: Somewhere between four and none of your business. Go run four laps. The rest of you should try Alp Pouches

Q: Good sub $1K do-it-all (or most) North American complete rifle build?

A: Spend a few dollars more and get a Steyr Pro Hunter 3.

Q: What’s the unofficial camp rule that everyone ignores?

A: We don’t have any camp rules except that @petecorreale isn’t allowed to have adderall in the baboon blind anymore.

Q: What does one do with several free days in Buenos Aires?

A: Eat and drink the whole time.

Q: Just got laid up with cancer. Any recs for outdoor/hunting/safari shows?

A: So sorry to hear this. Fight hard. Come to ATL for DSC 2/6-2/8. Come to Nashville for SCI 2/18-2/21. Saying a prayer for you now…

Q: Leupold Mark 4HD thoughts?

A: Very hard to beat the Leupold Mark 4 for the money.

Q: Any FE branded gear coming for our four-legged friends?

A: We’ve experimented with the heaviest copper dog bowls ever made. Still considering releasing them, but that would be it.

Q: Debating: Should i keep the wood furniture on my Henry or modernize it with RangerPoint kit?

A: You should chill and wait for the FE x Henry collab. It’s set up for adding a light and a red dot. Carbon fiber 16-inch barrel. Everything is Cerakoted (including sights). Chambered in .45-70. Recoil for men.

Q: Preferred .300 BLK round for deer with the Mini Fix

A: Barnes 110-grain Black Tip

Q: When is the Sangin collab happening?

A: This winter. No date set yet. Keep watching for it.

Q: New AR build for home defense…What barrel length are you rocking?

A: 11.5 inches.

Q: Have you ever been to Japan? If not, would you ever travel there?

A: No/Yes. Have been working on a plan for an underground whiskey speakeasy trip there.

Q: Going to Ireland and Scotland, any recommendations or tips?

A: Just drink as many cask ales as you can get your hands on.

Q: Do you guys ship to NZ? I made some friends while hunting, want to send them copies.

A: Sounds like you should ship to NZ. Three laps.

Two lap credit for preaching FE overseas = one lap.

Q: I’m a print subscriber, but I didn’t have early access to the FE companion. Email y’all?

A: Email TheGimp@fieldethos.com

Q: Are FE safari boots still happening?

A: Yes. Absolutely. Had a convo about it last week. Probably going to release them in elephant leather first.

Q: ETA on when you get tired of all the ETA questions and just answering them like Q did?

A: Very rare that we give a hard date because we all have ADD and fuck up our contributions to releases. But we love the anticipation from our readers, so we don’t get annoyed by it. Chill.

Q: Any interest in me writing a cigar article for you guys?

A: Not really, but do it anyway. Surely some of our readers will like it.

Q: Where can I send some articles for the next edition of the magazine?

A: Use the submission link on our website.

Q: I love you.

A: Don’t know you, but Jesus loves you and so do we.

Q: What’s the current truck gun you guys are running?

A: The Steyr AUG with Leupold Mark 5 has lived in my truck for over a year. Hard to beat.

Q: Does it get better than a pot of gumbo, football on TV, and a Colorado koolaid on Sunday?

A: It does, yes. You could step away from the TV and go outside.

Q: What is the best red dot for a Glock 43X? Thank you.

A: A plate conversion to the Trijicon RMRcc.

Q: Is there a bolt action .308 that uses AR10 mags that you recommend?

A: Q Fix.

Q: Thoughts on Federal Terminal Ascent for whitetail?

A: Solid.

Q: JV’s top three watches under $25K?

A: Rolex Submariner; Rolex Pepsi; IWC Top Gun Chrono 41 Black

Q: Ever have the lumen piece from the bezel fall out of a Tudor or Rolex? Recs on repair folks?

A: Nope. Ask the closest authorized dealer.

Q: Hi guys! Seiko 5 Field or GMT for a first automatic? No first Omega, but I will take the lap.

A: Great watch and you won’t cry if you beat it up.

Q: Any underrated watch brands to keep an eye on?

A: Casio

Q: Obviously a lot of love for Explorer 2, so what are your thoughts on Explorer 1?

A: Great watch. Schoby bought the larger size. The standard size is a little small for men.

Q: Submariner or sea dweller SD43?

A: Submariner. Call Gunderson Jewelers

Q: If Doritos are tortilla chips, why is it unacceptable to put salsa on them?

A: Put the nacho chess Doritos on a PB&J and report back.
