Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like, insult us if you please, just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s Onlyfans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary, only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Enjoy. And follow along @fieldethos on Sundays.
Q: How do we get more folks out to vote?
A: We need to amplify the message that if you’re legally allowed to vote and you do not you are an unclean ignorant person and a disgrace to America.
People need to know their opinion does not matter if they do not vote.
Q: Can we make fun of the guys who show up to dove hunt in full camo and flat brim hats?
A: You should not make fun of them. You should turn them away without any discussion.
Q: What’s the correct amount of crocs to rotate throughout the week according to Don Jr.
A: Don does not have redundant pairs of crocs. He’s very low maintenance. We’ve only seen two different pairs that he’s worn for years. The white pair gets the most comments. If he ever tells you he only has them as lightweight camp footwear for backpack hunts, it’s a lie.
I’ve personally seen him in the white pair, board shorts and a dress shirt while running a leaf blower.
Q: If they were legal and you could only hunt one, tiger or black rhino?
A: Tiger, and it’s not even close.
Q: 10/22 optic recommendation?
A: Why would you ask about a 10/22 now that the Ditch Tiger has been born? Aspire to be better.
Q: Any issues with your Raging Hunter? Had to send mine back to get the extractor rod fixed.
A: Yes, but only because a gunsmith screwed it up when trying to do custom mods.
From the factory it ran great.
Q: Top three favorite historical figures?
A: Jesus
John Belushi
Shackleton
Q: Recs for a chest holder for a large-frame revolver with red dot mounted on barrel.
A: People who usually ask this hunt in the Southeast US where our bears are the size of obese black labs. Diamond D Leather makes nice chest rigs for the rest of you.
Q: Just ordered the Ditch Tiger. What silencer should I get?
A: Ample selection of .22 silencers at Silencer Shop. The SilencerCo Sparrow is a great value and the Q Erector is the favorite premium .22 can.
Q: What is the proper attire for a dove hunt?
A: Shorts and a camo short sleeve shirt are ideal for dove opener. You’ll also want some type of sun shade, a large cooler full of cheap light beer, a bag to put dead birds in while they’re in the beer cooler, a Turtlebox or similar, sunblock, and snacks.
Q: No question, just thanks for recommending Crusader. Fantastic experience.
A: Crusader Safaris is the group to hunt with everywhere in Africa. Even if they don’t operate in a certain country, they’ll go along with you to make sure everything is squared away.
Q: You’re so cool. You’re so cool.
A: You get it.
Q: Thoughts on Sako as a hunting platform?
A: Sako is a great brand.
Q: How’s the bolt on the Ditch Tiger for a young child?
A: Very easy to use with proper training.
Q: Best thermal scope under 3K for night coyotes?
A: A $40 Q Beam from Ace Hardware. Budget thermal optics are not the answer.
Q: Got the Blaser, Gunwerks, and Q on your recs. Need a gofundme for Volquartsen now. Not mad about it.
A: You should have plenty of cash on hand since you skipped the FE x Rigby rifle.

Q: Stoked for my Ditch Tiger. Will we see Rhodie Acro P2 before November Ship? DT good host.
A: Aimpoint, get your asses in gear with this.
Q: Get a Winchester Model 70 in .375 H&H or save up for a Blaser R8 in .375 H&H?
A: Winchester .375 H&H > Blaser .375 H&H.
Q: Just ordered my Ditch Tiger, what’s the recommended optic?
A: FDE Eotech Vudu 1-10 mounted in FDE Reptilia Corp mount.
Q: Can we send Pete Correale undercover at a ME Experience and document the mayhem?
A: The goal with undercover is to blend in. There’s no group of people on earth that @petecorreale can blend in with.
Q: Any recommendations for budget-friendly side-by-side shotguns?
A: Gross.
Q: Re: Ditch Tiger hunt soundtrack; leans more Miami Vice or more towards Top Gun?
A: You really need to make your own acid rock playlist.
Q: FE go-to gun solvent/oil?
A: Ballistol
Q: How are the new Ruger Marlin lever actions?
A: Very solid. Taking one to Australia in October.
Q: I dislike most gun and hunting influencer. Am I being too cynical?
A: No. Interesting timing as just moments ago I told an aspiring gun writer that he needs to stop preaching things to others that he has not done himself.
There is no way to vet influencers. That’s why we built a TEAM of experienced people at FE. There is no single expert voice at FE (except for @terry.houin’s combat related experience) but there is a collective of knowledge based on real-world experience.
Q: What song would you want played at your wake while degenerates toast in your honor?
A: Something from Tenacious D that makes everyone laugh and makes family very uncomfortable.

Q: What is the best .22LR ever made, and why is it the Ditch Tiger?
A: It’s up there but it will always have to contend with the old CZ 452 Training rifles.
Q: Brand and model recommendations for a reflex sight on a big-bore rifle?
Q: Break out the nice O/U for dove or shoot camo inertia duck hunting shotgun? Both are 12 gauge.
A: All depends. For a long time, I only took my semi auto to the dove field because I hit better with it.
One season I hunted only with my grandfather’s O/U because I couldn’t hit well with it, and I was determined to get better. By the end of that season, I was hitting better with it than any of my semi autos.
Take whatever you want to get practice with. It’s not a contest.
Q: Nightforce scopes, worth the money?
A: Yes, they’re great.
Q: Is there such a thing as an idiot-proof watch? I’m hard on shit.
A: Casio G-Shock.
Q: .375 Ruger thoughts?
A: Great cartridge in terms of performance, but it’s improper in a traditional bolt gun.
Q: When will you start making game biltong?
A: Never, but @raylovessam getting nervous at US Customs and admitting that he had biltong in his bag was a great thing to watch.
Q: What if I wear an FE Rhodesion Brush Stroke shirt to a dove hunt?
A: Dove season was in mind when we made that hoodie. It would also be great with the sleeves cut off.
Q: Best advice for someone looking to pursue outdoor writing as a hobby?
A: Some of our best writers do it as a hobby and had gone previously unpublished prior to FE.
@littleqranch
@jimewing21
@p.hemingwayadams
Q: Interesting superstitions/religious beliefs about wildlife you’ve encountered?
A: Bigfoot surely exists and there are no wild cougars or mountain lions in SC or GA.

Q: Wait…did that guy have a narwhal tattoo?
A: Be suspicious of anyone with a narwhal tattoo.
Q: What are y’all shooting for dove season?
A: Personally, nothing. I’m going to miss out on early season dove hunting this year due to travel schedule.
Pretty sick over it as @carltonwalstad and the squad’s dove field will be going off like vietfuckinnam.
Q: Groomsmen gift ideas under $200?
A: FE Vellie Boots. Restock coming soon.
Q: Any tips on securing a desert bighorn hunt?
A: It’s really easy to secure a desert bighorn hunt. You’ll just need $30K and a plane ticket to Mexico.
Q: How did hunting become such an influencer-driven bro contest?
A: It’s not hunting. It’s the entire culture of social media. The idea of a grown man trying to up his personal follower count of complete strangers for some level of validation is a very sad thing.
Q: Ordered the Ditch Tiger, can’t wait. Recommended matching sidearm?
A: Staying in category it would be the Volquartsen Mini Mamba.
Q: What Cologne is Jr. rocking?
A: Hoppes #9.
Q: Rolex has become the Sitka Gear of the watch world…make luxury brands great again.
A: Sitka is worn by many many douchebags.
I do not wear Sitka, but I am a douchebag.
I do wear a Rolex.
I can see how you arrived to this.
Q: How do we Canadians rid ourselves of our commie leader?
A: Ask us if/when we rid ourselves of our own commies. Lots of nasties in the 18-30-year-old range that own guns but will not vote.
Q: Y’all have opinions/experience with the new B&T rotex print-x suppressors?
A: Nope, but it’s a B&T so it’s likely very good.
Q: How much oil would we conserve if Don shaved his head?
A: First of all, he’s part Czech so you’re being a fucking racist.
Second, that’s not oil. He uses Hoppes #9 in his hair, too.
Say what you want about his Crocs, but the man does have great hair.
Q: Best US available adventure vehicle?
A: A 1987 T-top Camero.
Q: When will you start sending Field Ethos to Europe?
A: We already do and we’re probably going to get arrested for it on our next visit.
Q: Attire recommendations for a fall South Carolina hog hunt?
A: Ok take 6 laps.
Q: Has a Brush Stroke FE/Croc collab been considered?
A: 7 laps in the crocs you already own.
Q: What’s your opinion on Cam Hanes and his take on Bowhunting?
A: How can you say something bad about a guy that assigns and completes his own laps?
Q: Enjoy reading the quarterly, especially Don’s Publisher’s Note and your Sundowner. Thanks!
A: Take 2 laps for not mentioning mine first.
Q: Thoughts on Tulsi Gabbard?
A: She served our country, surfs, competes with an AR-15 and looks great in yoga pants, so what’s not to love?
Q: Excluding the Lord’s caliber, which calibers would you all prefer for the Mega Fix?
A: They’re likely going to include 9.3×62 which is a very cool kill-everything cartridge.
Q: Gold Submariner?
A: Of course. I was in the Rolex store in the London airport recently and I asked if they had any men’s watches they could actually sell since everything in the cases said display only.
“We have a gold Submariner. I can get it for you if you’d like.”
I left feeling poor and angry.

Q: Is it ungentlemanly to pack a rifle for coyote while archery hunting for desert muleys?
A: If you’re a bowhunter you should pack a .300 Win. Mag. “for coyotes.”
Q: What is a good age to start familiarizing my sons with firearms/safety?
A: Delivery room.
Q: Quality first watch? (16 years old)
A: Get a Casio G-Shock or Seiko 5 for now. Tell your older friends to vote.
