Sure, there are lots of great options for carry guns when you’re looking to carry 15+ rounds and want something with a light and optic, but none of those options give you quite the style points you get with carrying a great revolver. I’m very aware of all the advantages from other platforms, but all my friends have had to put up with me carrying a revolver since I bought my first S&W 442 when I was in college. Nowadays, a revolver is a very regular part of my carry rotation.
The S&W Performance Center Model 19 Carry Comp has been part of their lineup for many years, and they have recently released it in an attractive Moss color. The gun is a good balance of size and capabilities. For most guns of this size, I wouldn’t recommend 357 Magnum for everyday carry. However, with the built-in comp on this gun, 357 is much more manageable than a conventional setup.
S&W PC Model 19 Carry Comp Features
With six very capable rounds in the cylinder, the gun is equally at home inside the waistband for carry or tucked inside a good trail rig like our Tacticlassy Chest Pack for a trek in the woods. With the Performance Center trigger job and comp, the gun has a smooth double-action pull with a flatter recoil impulse, making it easier to get on target and stay on target. Smith & Wesson also makes it painless to pick your grips by including both wood and rubber grips in the package. The rubber grips are easier for controlling the gun, but the wood grips are my preferred option, as they don’t snag onto a shirt for carry.
Although there are a lot of great revolver options available on the market, this Model 19 Carry Comp checks a lot of boxes for a versatile choice. Whether you need a companion for the woods, or a new option for everyday carry, this gun will scratch the itch for you while keeping your style points at the highest levels.
Cost: $1,299
Pros: For a revolver, this is a very capable gun in a carry-sized package.
Cons: This is a full-weight revolver, so it’s heavier to carry than some of the smaller, polymer-framed guns.
