That is the very reason we here at Field Ethos decided to design our own wetsuit with the folks at Waihana.
No, it’s not because we’re hardcore spearfishermen, surfers, and divers—it’s because, even though the doctors already say our T levels are already dangerously high, we like to push the limits. We came up with a dark camo pattern that we feel works best not only for hunting on the reef, but out in the bottomless blue as well. A blaze orange strip on the hood will help your buddies spot you coming up from a deep dive, as well as aid in visibility from the boat when breathing up on the surface. We decided to eliminate the knife pocket on the bottoms for less drag, but kept the whistle pocket on the shoulder. The first drop of suits will be offered in a 3.5mm thickness, and a 1.5 will come out later in the year.

The Field Ethos team and I put the 1.5mm version of these suits through the paces on a test run in Panama earlier this year. The fit was perfect, the neoprene soft, comfortable, and warm, and the camo pattern helped bring those cagey cubera snappers in range. The 1.5 worked perfectly in the balmy waters of the Pacific.
After Panama, I took one of the 3.5s over to the Bahamas, where the water temps were in the 70s. I found the thickness to work perfectly in those conditions. Material integrity also plays a huge role in what makes a good spearfishing wetsuit worth buying, so I feel it is worth noting that the chest pad, elbows, and whistle pocket all have glue-reinforced stitching. Smooth-skin neoprene is used around the face of the hood as well as the wrists to minimize water intrusion.
Another key feature of these suits is the smaller-sized, magnetized double-closure clips on the beaver tail. A great fit, warm, comfortable, durable, and a badass camo pattern—this is everything you need in a proper spearfishing suit.
Even if you suck at spearfishing, you might as well look good while doing it and bump up those T levels. Don’t be a fool; go get yourself one of these things before they sell out. This is a very limited drop.
