Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like, insult us if you please, just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s Onlyfans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary, only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Enjoy.
Q: Do you need an article on the Mormon, Cain, Bigfoot connection?
A: Mormons want you google Bigfoot instead of Mormon soaking.
Q: Any recommendations for a bedside pistol safe?
A: You can fit an entire Q Honey Badger under a standard size pillow. Not sure if this answers your question.
Q: Can you please read my direct message to you? Please!
A: Ma’am, you’ve never sent a DM to us. You probably sent it to Don and think he checks these messages. He does not.
Unless you’re the Brazilian woman that loves to send spicy messages to this account for Don. In which case, hey this is Don. Hope you’re well. Miss you. Smooches.
Q: What’s the FE opinion on noob/wannabe hunters signing up for a hunt with Outrider?
A: It’s highly encouraged. We take inexperienced hunters on outrider trips every time. They’re usually the most fun to hang out with.
Q: What’s your preference, first or second focal plane for bolt rifles?
A: Depends on what the rifle is being set up for.
Q: Can you hold my hair back at DSC while I puke?
A: Only if you tell us how your people made those pagers explode.
Q: Any chance for the bag art from BRCC being made into a poster in a future FE issue?
A: Probably not but we’ll be working with that artist again. @grizzlyriverart
Q: What re some good O/U shotgun recs for sporting clays? $2-4K
A: Browning Firearms makes several synthetic options that are great for waterfowl as well.
Q: Why the picture of Pablo? I’m from Medellin and trust me we have better things to show.
A: Hello ma’am. This is Don.
Q: Are Sangin watches any good?
A: Yes. They’re great.
Q: Thoughts on the Bergara MG Lite in the Lord’s Caliber? Longtime listener, first-time caller.
A: No experience with that model but Bergara makes great rifles.
Q: Will we get Q products here in South Africa?
A: Pretty sure @kevinbrittingham has SA distribution in the works.
Q: The 45-70 Marlin, how far are you hunting with the Aimpoint?
A: Hopefully about 10yds, but we’ll make sure it’s good to go for 100yds.
The technical part about getting to 10yds from a banteng on this hunt will be keeping the Recce flip flops silent while stalking in close. It can and will do though.
Q: Rolex Submariner. Thoughts?
A: Wearing it now. No date. Got it from Gunderson Jewelers.
Q: Recs on a red dot that can handle the recoil of my 460 S&W.
Q: Is FE going to bring to market a cigar ashtray?
A: Yep. Already working on one with @kirkpatrickforge.
Q: What’s your favorite memory of Trump?
A: Probably the time I told him “Keep your foot on the fucking gas, Sir,” before I realized I probably should tone it down with a sitting President.
Q: If Kamala says she owns a gun, can we speculate on the make and model?
A: I’d bet it’s a small Kimber.
Q: Any cool collaboration projects coming?
A: We have a field watch with CWC Watch in the works that you’ll all want. Priced sub $1k so you probably won’t have to ask your former fiancé for permission to buy it.
Welcome back. You can probably see in the dark after being in the hole this long. Your blocked status was removed 3 days ago. Be careful.
Q: Do you like the PRC rounds from Hornady? Are we missing something as an industry?
A: Yes, they’re great. We have lots of dead things attributed to Hornady’s PRC loads.
Q: What about Turtlebox make them the go-to speaker? Durability? Sound quality?
A: Do you work for Turtlebox? We like them because they stay charged a long time, they’re waterproof and they can be cranked up really loud in Jamaica when you’ve had a 12pk of red stripe.
Q: Do you think Escobar did the Mormon soak?
A: No, he was probably a good old-fashioned thruster.
Q: Opinions on sous vide for game meat? Fighting CO altitude and dry meat.
A: It’s great. We did a venison sushi article using this method last year.
Q: 100 or 200 yard zero?
A: 100
Q: How can I leave/transfer my rifle in SA with my PH like Kevin has done with the Fix?
A: You’ll need to transfer ownership of the rifle to your PH. It’s some paperwork and a lengthy wait period.
Q: Any chance of a Zenith pant? Love the Zenith shorts!
A: The zenith shorts were designed for days so hot you wouldn’t even consider wearing pants. So probably not. The airflow material works best if you’re going commando.
Q: More Zenith shirt colors in the works?
A: We have a Zenith shirt in a color we call “Grandma?”.
Nobody is getting another fucking color until one of you buys Grandma? and sees how awesome it is.
If you are the type to get into a fistfight at the US Open tennis tourney after one too many wine spritzers and just a touch of cocaine, this is the shirt for you.
Q: Best first hunt for kids, birds or game?
A: Take the kid to a beaver pond. Tell him to put his fingers in his ears while you rip a round at a beaver with a .500 Nitro Express double rifle. Then let the kid shoot the beaver carcas a handful of times with a .22 rifle.
Then light up a cigarette and tell him “I do shit like this every day while you’re at school.”
It has a 100% recruitment rate.
Q: Specific species target for Jamaica, or whatever the dogs flushed out?
A: We have legal running some things to ground before we disclose much about that trip.
Q: Should I take my own rifle on my first African safari or rent one from Crusader?
A: Take your rifle.
Q: Glock 17 fan?
A: Yep. Top 10 all-time favs.
Q: When are the Leupold glasses coming?
A: This fall. Everyone will need a pair.
Q: 17 HMR rifles. What would you buy?
A: Boring. Take a lap and then go Google Mormon Soaking.
Q: When are you going to run for president?
A: This is not Don.
Q: When you father is reelected, I would like to assist in the dismantling of the ATF.
A: Hey this is Don. When my dad wins reelection, we’re going to turn the ATF into a retail store for all our favorite shit.
Think Hooters meets Porky’s Pawn and Gold.
Q: Will you open up a project in Montreal?
A: Like a housing project?
Q: Recs for hunting eyewear that you can stick prescription lenses in?
A: If you don’t get prescription eyewear, you’ll have a great excuse when you shoot that next spike.
Save your money.
Q: Care to expound upon the 100- vs 200-yard zero?
A: The first one is half the distance of the other. Lap.
Q: Top-notch Porsche article.
A: Thanks. Intro was written by The Godfather @kevin.lynch.
Q: Is there any practical application for a pistol-length .308 AR other than creating fireballs and mild TBIs?
A: Nope. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have one, though.
The way I answer these questions will never make complete sense until you have your own TBI.
Q: Has anyone at FE thought about doing a road trip cross country or the Pan American?
A: We thought about it. Turns out you can just fly across the country and the Delta club has free alcohol before you get started.
