Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.\

Sunday Q&A — November 16, 2025
Q: Why aren’t you answering my question about Witt clamp on muzzle brakes? Any Good?
A: Stop being a pussy and eat the recoil. Stop flinching and take it. Your shoulder will be fine. Muzzle brakes cause more hearing damage than anything. When a rifle comes in with a brake, the first thing I usually do before a range trip is remove it and cap it or put a silencer on it.
Q: Top three rangefinders that aren’t built into binos?
A: Sig Kilo 8K. Revic BR4. Leica CRF Max if you speak German and have an engineering degree so you can understand the manual. It’s very good, but not the easiest to program.
Q: First or second focal plane for shots under 5/600 yards, plus a fair amount of timber hunting?
A: Preference for any optic that I’m going to dial for range or spot for someone else is first focal plane.
Q: Preferred .375 H&H round?
A: Federal with the 300-grain Swift A-Frame bullet.
Q: Is there a watch collaboration for a Field Ethos in the works?
A: Yes. We’re on track to release the Sangin X FE watch sometime next month. Only 50 on this first run because we wanted to get them out before the end of the year. They should sell out in a few minutes so pay attention.

Q: When are you fuckers going to release more Rhodesian Zenith shorts? Restock Outrider T?
A: Zenith shorts…soon?
Q: Best .30-06 ammo for hunting the deer of NA?
A: The Barnes 168-grain and 180-grain TTSX are very good for this. Have a 479-yard kill with the 180 grain. If your barrel likes the heavies, shoot the heavies.
Q: Why’s the new Rhodesian Camo holster $300+?
A: That’s what a holster of that type and style should sell for. It’s the same price as their non-camo holsters. ANR Design makes a premium product. Uncle Mike’s Holsters are always an option.
Q: Which is more important with hunting bullets on game: 2,000 fps or 1,000 ft/lbs?
A: foot-pounds on target is the important consideration between the two. 1000 ft/lbs is a good minimum for elk-size game, but you don’t need that much to poke holes through both lungs on a whitetail.
Q: What’s the advantages or your preferences for the S&W 10mm over the Glock?
A: Size. It’s smaller, thinner, lighter, and just as reliable. It’s the better choice for bear defense.
Q: What do you consider the do-all rifle/cartridge for North America if you could only have one?
A: The Lord’s Caliber aka .300 Win. Mag.
Q: Best optic setup for Q 8.6 for southern whitetail?
A: Our favorite for the rifle length barrel is the Eotech Vudu 1-10.

Q: Published “rule of thumb” stuff aside, 1-8×24 awesome on a 16-inch barrel Q Fix in .308.
A: That 479-yard .30-06 shot was with a Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8. At 8X, 479 was stretching it. With .308 being such a solid 500-yard killer, a 10X would be ideal.
Q: Sling recommendation for the Recce rifle?
A: Armageddon Gear is the easy choice for this.
Q: Is it ever acceptable to sell a gun from your personal collection? Seems sacrilegious.
A: Yes, of course.
Q: Is it stupid to want to put a suppressor on a rimfire revolver? For yard grizzlies.
A: Yes. It will still be loud with the cylinder gap.
Q: Any good gun stores in the Tulsa area?
A: No idea, but the realtors there suck.
Q: Any of you guys fly? Would be cool to add an aviation wing.
A: Don Jr. was a pilot, but hasn’t flown in years. He could probably crash a plane better than an incapacitated pilot, though.
Q: Best mount for putting an RMR on a Model 70 . 458?
A: Talley Rings.
Q: Why has the left made it their mission to ruin everything? And how do we counteract it?
A: Because they’re evil. Strong men need to counteract it. You asked your fiance for permission to buy an Omega, so you still have about 100K laps to go before you stuff an antifa protester in a trash can.
Q: Factory .45-70 round of choice if you could only pick one forever?
A: Barnes 300-grain TSX. A handful of kills with it. Very good.

Q: Ordered the FE Henry .45-70. What optic are you using?
A: Trijicon SRO.
Q: Scope recommendations for my 2020 Waypoint in .300.
Q: Looking to purchase a Model 70 super grade in maple or walnut, recommended caliber?
A: I’d get Walnut in .30-06 or .300 Win. Mag. and sent it to @_jswitzer to have iron sights added.
Q: I’ve shot a 1911, of the 2011 options out there, which do you guys prefer?
A: Custom: Nighthawk Custom. Top-end non-custom: Staccato. Production grade: Springfield. Have not tried the SIG P211 but hear it’s very good.
Q: X-Bolt 2 with Leupold VX-3HD. What rings you using?
A: Talley Rings
Q: Thoughts on the Marlin 336 in .30-30?
A: Great Rifle.
Q: FE x Turtlebox, did I miss it?
A: No, Ron Dan fucked us all. We all needed the Turtlebox collab pre-Christmas. Not going to happen.
Q: I’m ready to buy a second Turtlebox and patiently waiting.
A: Ron Dan, no laps. You need to jog into work tomorrow.

Q: Thank you for not making men’s shirts in small.
A: It’s a policy. They can get a women’s medium.
Q: Gunwerks, worth the money?
A: 200%
Q: ETA on waxed jacket?
A: I’ll ask Ron when he catches his breath from jogging to the office tomorrow.
Q: Scope and ring recommendation for Steyr Pro Hunter III in 6.5CM?
A: Leupold VX-6HD Gen 2 3-18×44
Q: FE Grenadier Seat covers inbound? I think it’s a pretty broad market.
A: We’re putting together a FE Grenadier accessory kit. Seat covers included.
Q: Is 180-grain .30-06 too much overkill for South Georgia whitetail?
A: There is no such thing as overkill. Terry Houin shot a GA whitetail with a MRAD in .416 Barrett.
Q: Best country to take my dad for free-range gemsbok, preferably truck camping at his request?
A: Namibia.

Q: Muzzlebrake guy and Omega dude the same person?
A: No, but that’s a great question. 1 lap credit.
Q: Thought on CheyTac? Thinking about getting a M200 for playing?
A: Get the Barrett MRAD.
Q: Which 16-inch .308 manufacturer for northeast whitetail hunting?
A: You’re going to want to see the Steyr X FE collaboration before you buy a 16-inch .308. Spoilers: 16-inch .308 in a Banser and Co stock.
Q: Would you hunt whitetail with .22 Creed?
A: My brother and I took our sons to @hunt_fe_hill ranch last year and my 14 year old nephew smoked an eight point with the .22 Creed. Very effective. Not as effective as the .300 Win. Mag. my 10 year old shot his eight point with, but it still works.
Q: I know the X-Bolt is great but how does the A-Bolt stack up? Looking at the Micro Stalker.
A: The Browning AB3 has always been a solid rifle. For a youth gun, it’s a great option.
Q: What challenge can you give the Omega & Muzzlebrake guys to dig out of the doghouse?
A: Time and laps are the only purification for men like them. Rehabbing the cuck mentality isn’t a game show.
Q: .308 or .30-06 for whites and black bears?
A: Despite what liberal America says, you can’t just go around shooting whites.
Q: Have you tried Duckworth merino clothing?
A: Yes. Wore two of their products on the Europe trip this week. Very good stuff.
Q: Thoughts on CZ Bobwhite shotgun?
A: Solid entry level double.
Q: Where can a man get a Randall knife without the seven-year waitlist?
A: Modern Randall knives are worth neither the $ nor the time.
Q: Preferred .45-70 ammo for “oh shit” scenarios?
A: Buffalo Bore Ammo lead heavies.

Q: Buy a Tudor. Top three recommendations? Thinking Black Bay Pro.
A: Pelagos. Get it from Gundersons.
Q: Go-to handgun for handgun hunting?
Q: Age when grandsons can start shooting pellet guns, supervised?
A: In the infant stage. Airforce Airguns.
Q: I feel like everyone forgot about Henry Rifle guy. No Q, so will run a lap. Just wanted to remind people!
A: No lap. Never forget!
Q: Thoughts on the Browning Citori 825 Sporting?
A: We’re big fans of all the Browning Citoris.
Q: Go a good rec for a starter father and son hunting trip lodge in the ME or Africa?
A: Outrider can set you up on a world class plains game father/son trip to Africa with Crusader Safaris.
Q: Is there any budget double rifle worth having, or go with a Model 70?
A: Nope. The Winchester Model 70 Safari is the best working man’s safari rifle made today.
Q: How would one go about becoming employed with FE and associates?
A: We usually just poach talented people when we find them.
Q: Who survives longest lost in the back country, omega watch guy, Henry rifle guy, or muzzlebrake guy?
A: Henry guy. Pure speculation, though.
Q: Are bino with a stabilized image and a built-in rangefinder going to be a possibility in the near future?
A: Probably. SIG Optics is leading the charge in electronic optics these days. Very good stuff.
Q: When is the Steyr collab coming, price point?
A: It should be ready in December. Not going to reveal the price yet, but for what is is, it’s way underpriced.
Q: Is a break in procedure necessary for a Ruger American?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: Grenadier or GX550? Would ask about the Land Cruiser but it’s a fucking hybrid….
A: Was telling a guy at church last night that the INEOS Grenadier is the most fun SUV I’ve ever driven on our mountain roads and it can outperform any SUV I’ve ever driven offroad. And I’ve owned three very good Land Cruisers.
Q: .300 Win. vs .300 PRC?
A: From a ballistic standpoint, the .300 PRC dominates it. But there are other factors to consider if you hunt internationally. So for a do-everything, our choice is .300 Win. Mag.
Q: Best .45 ACP ammo for defense? And for training? Alchemy restomod Bobcat.
A: Black Hills HoneyBadgers are very very good. Ron shot an elk with this bullet in .44 Mag. last week. Amazing.
Q: Recs for an all around big game rifle under $2500 in MT?
A: Hold off until you see our Steyr collaboration.
Q: I see Jr. visited HH. Hunting in Zambia or just visiting the falls?
A: One of our good friends invited Don over but didn’t invite the rest of us, so it hurts too bad to discuss right now. They were probably doing gay things with bows anyway.
Q: Pelagos vs. Omega NTTD?
A: It’s pure preference. Personally, I like the Tudor Pelago. Either way, Gunderson’s Jewelers is a deal for both brands. They financially support wildlife conservation so it’s a great place to make a purchase.
Q: Have a .300 Win. Mag. and want to add a .308. X-Bolt or Tikka?
A: Why TF are you not asking about the Steyr Pro Hunter 3 in .308 that I showed you people last week? The Browning X-Bolt 2 is badass. So is the Steyr. So is the Tikka.
Q: Any chance we get a lever action in 30 Win. Mag collab?
A: Absolutely not.
Q: What is the proper way of storing a truck gun?
A: I’ll do a video of the Steyr AUG in my F-250 and the Q Honey Badger 5.56 in the Grenadier this morning.
Q: Best .17 HMR rifle?
A: 9/10 poachers agree that the best .17 HMR is actually a .22 Magnum.
Q: Book recs for the deer stand?
A: Raw dog the deer stand like a man.
Q: Most fun animal you’ve chased in the Lower 48?
A: Whitetail doe cull from the truck with John Hill with long-range rigs and full cooler is about as much fun as a man can have. It’s not really a hunt, though.
