Sunday Q&A July 28

Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.

Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like, insult us if you please, just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.

For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.

We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s Onlyfans page.

*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary, only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.

Enjoy.

Q: What’s the plan to get Pete in as the press secretary? We need this.

A: Our lawyer said the same thing but we think it’s because he wants to buy a beach house.

Q: How should we react if “they” steal the election again?

A: They’re going to try. Tell everyone you know it’s their fault if they don’t vote.

Q: Scarface Tony says “Say hello to my little friend.” What weapon should he have used?

A: On that much cocaine he should’ve been able to kill all those guys with a single shot derringer in .22 Short with fast reloads.

Q: My birthday is incoming, what from FE should I procure?

A: At $24k, the FE x Rigby Rogue rifle is the perfect self gift for your birthday.

Q: Be blessed fellas. Whiskey, The Fix, & Hogs last night. FE Print and Prime Rib today.

A: We too killed some evil wild pigs last night. iRay RICO MICRO

Q: Argentina still the top wing shooting destination? What to budget for duck/dove combo?

A: Yes. Ask Outrideradventures

Q: What beach would your lawyer buy a beach house on?

A: Somewhere in a non-extradition country.

Q: Building a short barrel rifle, bolt action 18” barrel roughly best caliber?

A: Just buy  THE FIX (liveqordie.com)

Q: Can I buy a safety third patch by itself?

A: You can buy a hat and cut the patch off.

Q: Favorite African Plains Game animal? Most underrated?

A: Favorite is kudu. Most underrated is bushbuck.

Q: Is the Ruger No. 1 a decent rifle for the price?

A: Good looking. Well made. Entirely unpractical.

Q: Any pilots in the crew?

A: Yes. Several. Including a F-35 reserve pilot. Don isn’t a pilot anymore but he can still land a plane if everyone else is too drunk.

Q: Do you guys have any outfitter recs for a Carolina Bear hunt?? Thanks in advance!

A:  Check out @chesmcdowell on instagram. He’s the NC bear dude.

Q: Went in for a Black Bay 58, left with an Omega, wife was with me.

A: Interesting timing with Omega sponsoring the trans games. Did that propel your decision? Any why the fuck would you take your wife watch shopping with you. 19 laps.

Q: As an investment, will vintage shotgun or vintage rifles appreciate in value more?

A: That’s a gosh darn good question. If you buy from one of the London firms, it should be close between the two.

Q: Best AR rifle for LEO?

A: A 1:7 twist 16” carbine with an Aimpoint or Eotech red dot and 3X magnifier sighted in for 77gr. Black Hills ammo.  Add a Surefire light. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to get a reliable and accurate AR. Try Stag Arms, Aero Precision and Ballistic Advantage. All make good options for your first.

Q: Best water filter for backcountry hunts?

A: Just keep a cooler on your side by side.

Q: How do you buy a FE X Rigby

A: August 1st message @riversandglen on Instagram.

Q: Best 9mm PCC?

A: A transferable MP5SD if you have $80 K laying around. If not, get a Q Honey Badger in .300BLK..

Q: Savage Impulse Straight Pull? Any experience with them?

A: 20 labs. Get a Blaser or don’t get a straight pull.

Q: Necessary to lap quality scope rings these days or is it overkill?

A: Not necessary.

Q: Is the Leupold Freedom better than the Aimpoint PRO?

A: No, but it’s good to go.

Q: Outside of buying another AR, what spare AR parts are good to have on hand?

A: Just buy multiple ARs and then them against different trees like Mel Gibson in the Patriot.

Q: Which character from reservoir dogs do you align with most?

A: Probably Mr. Blonde.

Q: Haven’t been to mass since before Covid, the Olympic opener changed that forever.

A: Onward Christian soldier.

Q: Best small-ish travel case for broken down R8?

A: Negrini cases

Q: In Islamorada for the week w/ the fam. I know y’all know this spot. What do we do?

A: There’s not much to do other than fishing, drinking, diving for lobster, drinking, cooking out and drinking. You can always go to Chica Lodge and swim in the pool and drink. Not the ideal spot for a kid vacation unless you take a boat.

Q: Need a 28 gauge for my Win Model 12 collection. Any recs for where to find one?

A: Guns for Sale at GunsInternational.com

Q: Will the annual FE x Outrider X Crusader Safari always be at their Baviaans River Conservancy?

A: We will be doing some smaller outrider trips with them so we can stay in the tent camp at Umko and hunt the Kai. We’re going to be setting up some hosted trips in other countries in Africa with Crusader as well.

Q: Scope recs for a .270 pre 64 M70. Want to keep it classic.

A: A vintage Leupold or Redfield.

Q: New briefcase gun from Gunwerks and Leupold? Yay or nay?

A: Very cool concept and execution. It’s a modern spy weapon.

Q: Thoughts on the iRay clip-on you had in your story?

A: Really good thermal. Probably won’t pair it with the 3.6-18 Mark 5 again only because 3.6 is too much for your lowest magnification, but I was able to hit a wounded pig twice at 200 yards when it was trying to make the wood line. It did not make it. Highly recommend the iRay Micro.

Q: What is a good path for a FE subscriber to get into hunting?

A: You have options. Look to friends and family first. There’s probably a hunter connected somewhere. Some state and fish agencies have programs and mentors. Or you could just come with us on a hosted hunt. We guarantee success in the field, but you’ll learn and have a damn good time.
