Questions by not-so-anonymous Instagram users. Answers by Jason Vincent.
Our Instagram Sunday Q&A is a weekly—or semiweekly depending on JV’s mood that day—chance for you to interact with our team directly. Ask whatever you like; insult us if you please; just don’t go crying about it when JV puts you in your place.
For those of you who are not completely inept, your answers will be swift and educational, leading you to knowledge akin to that of the ancient philosophers who helped drive our species from the Stone Age to modernity. That last part may not be true, but we sure as hell will give you our opinion and help you with whatever problems need solving.
We decided to post these Q&As here so those who had something better to do than look at Instagram on a Sunday afternoon or are dedicated to their craft and actually work Monday morning, can revel in the glory and enjoy some much-needed humor, quality product recommendations, and possible links to Schoby’s OnlyFans page.
*If you are assigned laps, these are not optional—all laps are mandatory and need to be filmed and sent to the Field Ethos Instagram account upon completion. Lap distance is arbitrary; only you know the full weight of your stupidity. Go the distance that feels right.
Sunday Q&A

Q: What is something that’s always worth the money, that people miss?
A: Giving your kids experiences, not things.
Q: What 9mm round would you recommend in black bear country?
A: Black Hills Ammo Honey Badger 9mm. it should easily penetrate skull or vitals. @the_ron_dan shot an elk with this bullet in a .44 Mag Taurus (amazing shot) and the bullet looked like it could be reloaded.
Q: Would you guys ever work with Ducks Unlimited?
A: Maybe. We’d like to know exactly how much goes to salaries and how much money actually hits the ground … or water.
Q: Any wader recommendations for Midwest duck hunting?
A: Either get really good Kuiu waders that will last a while and carry a good warranty or go to Academy and get the cheapest breathable Magellans and use them for a year. I’ve had Magellans last three seasons.
Q: No Camels in the vending machine, lame!
A: So true.
Q: Revic, Leupold, or Kahles on a 300 Win Mag for prairie whitetail?
A: Whitetail is very often a low-light game, so it’s going to be between the Leupold and Kahles. Look at the Leupold Mark 5 3-18 and the Kahles K318i. The Revic scopes are great long-range optics and we use them a lot, but mostly in open country.

Q: Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, or Black Hills Honey Badger for 9mm carry in a sub-compact?
A: All three are very good.
Q: Recommendations on a hunting pack for packing out game out west?
A: Kuiu.
Q: How badass would a 30-06+Peak be?
A: Very badass, but we may never see it. Someone would blow up a 120-year-old .30-06 rifle with it and blame Federal for their injuries.
Q: Is 577 or 600 NE too much gun? Can every man who wants to shot it, shoot it?
A: There is no such thing as too much gun. Every man can shoot it, but not every man should.
Q: Gin Shirt restock?
A: Yes. Coming.
Q: Will FE come to the ’27 DU Expo in Memphis for us plebes in MS, AR, TN to meet FE royalty?
A: No. Come hang out with us at the Clarkesville, Georgia office. Montucky Cold Snacks until you tap out and then we’ll wait with you for your Uber to arrive from 1.5 hours away. Or you can just stay in the podcast apartment if you record an episode with us while you’re drunk.

Q: Does Schoby own a kilt…?
A: @schoby375 owns a kilt and many other items that would be considered cultural appropriation.
Q: Thoughts on 22 Creedmoor?
A: It’s awesome.
Q: Was told I’m getting Grandpa’s Rolex but needs repair. Local shop to DFW or ship it?
A: I’d send it to the Rolex restoration squad at Gunderson’s Jewelers.
Q: Any rad new t-shirt designs coming out?
A: Oh yes. Waiting on samples but we’ve stepped up on the new T designs.
Q: Considering have a 416 Rigby made by Parkwest or Mauser 98 Das O. Same cal. R&G has one coming.
A: I would get the Mauser Das Original from Rivers & Glen. Such a badass rig.
Q: Renewing the backyard battle against the yard grizzlies. What new air gun do I need?
A: Air Force Airguns 25 cal. I really went too far on my campaign against yard grizzlies with mine and we had a bit of a conservation failure around the house. It’s taken two years for the population on that side of town to bounce back … Just in time for my two sons to take the torch with the absolute arsenal of air guns they now possess. Let the crusades return.

Q: Do you guys have a book or documentary recommendation to learn more about Rhodesia?
A: Read 3 Sips of Gin.
Q: I just proposed to the love of my life. She wants to go to Africa. .300 Win or .375 H&H?
A: Dude, you just started doing really fun shit with us. Do you really think now is the time to get married? If she loves you now she’ll love you in 10 years.
Q: Is there a good place to stop and get cigars on the way to Baviannsriver with Crusader?
A: No. Well, maybe in Bedford.
Q: Which pistol and rifle in the collection do you find yourself shooting the most often?
A: I shoot the Volquartsen Mini Mamba a lot. It’s my favorite fun for teaching new or young shooters pistol basics.
Q: Is the Gin Shirt getting restocked?
A: Yes.
Q: Driving an EV car is gay?
A: It certainly can be. When Tesla advances to the point where I can ride in the backseat of my own car with a full cooler full of beer, I’ll buy one for road trips.
Q: Any upcoming Q collabs?
A: Yes.
Q: Thoughts on the Tudor Pelagos FXD?
A: It’s a favorite. Got one from Gunderson’s Jewelers. Ask for Bre.

Q: We’re getting an FE Seiko watch?
A: Yes. Terry Houin and I are having a meeting on it today. Terry is the design lead. He’s shot bad guys and good pirates while wearing his Seiko, so we want this process to bring back happy memories for him.
Q: Recommendations for dive watches under $500?
A: G Shock.
Q: When someone asks, “Who is FE,” what’s the answer?
A: We just a bunch of dudes who worked really hard to prove our high school guidance counselors wrong.
Q: Will the new FE x Q Fix be a pistol or SBR? Trying to decide on taking advantage of BB Promo.
A: SBR.

A: Unfuck yourself with a righty .300 WM.
Q: Ideal Jaguar defense handgun?
A: A Howdah.
Q: What’s a good prayer after a successful hunt?
A: “Thank you Lord! Now please have our Coors Lights the perfect temperature of cold and the can’s mountains the perfect shade of blue. Amen.”
Q: Any good backcountry flight stories?
A: We just cleared the trees at the end of a dirt strip in Argentina by 12 feet a few weeks back. Paramount almost needed a new star for Dutton Ranch.

Q: What’s the deal with Poncho shirts?
A: They’re very good.
Q: How do the skills of a pro skater overlap with the skills of an outdoorsman?
A: The skills don’t. The never quit mentality does.

A: Yes. We have reports that he’s been in a foul mood.
Q: Thoughts or feelings on the new Leupold LCO?
A: We haven’t seen one yet so no idea.
Q: I know you guys’ stance on golf. What about sporting clays?
A: Fun as hell. Come shoot with us at @thepreserveri sometime. We’ll announce dates soon.
Q: Should I go for a new 1911 or used for my first 1911?
A: Plenty of great new options from Colt, Springfield and Dan Wesson.
Q: Sauer 505 in 308. Good rifle for roe deer, elk?
A: Amazing rifle for both.
Q: 300 Win Mag or 30-06 for hunting in Africa?
A: Both are great within their limits … which are also great.
Q: What’s going to be the price of that Blunderbuss? Heavy-walled 14-inch barrel? Sign me up!
A: It’s going to be the lowest price short-barreled shotgun in Mossberg’s lineup.

Q: Rifle and shotgun recommendations for my 12-year-old daughter?
A: Mossberg makes great youth guns in both categories.
